The leading European kitchen cabinet manufacturer Poggenpohl is back in the greater Sacramento area. NAR Fine Carpentry, Inc. has opened a new showroom in the prestigious El Dorado Hills Town Center, featuring the latest trendsetting designs in German kitchen cabinetry. After being absent from the local market for several years, Poggenpohl has partnered with NAR Fine Carpentry, Inc. Nar Bustamante, president of NAR Fine Carpentry, Inc. has been involved with many successful Poggenpohl projects in the past and has recruited Oliver Aden to help establish his new location in El Dorado Hills. Aden, who operated Poggenpohl showrooms in Sacramento and San Francisco in previous years, is joining NAR Fine Carpentry after working on Poggenpohl projects in other parts of the state, as well as Canada.

Since its inception over one hundred years ago, Poggenpohl has remained dedicated to functionality, sustainability and the highest standards for design. There is something to be said for being the world’s oldest cabinetry company. Dedication to design, service, quality and innovation are a few of the reasons why Poggenpohl, founded in 1892, has remained a leader in the cabinetry industry for over a century. With a European sensibility, Poggenpohl cabinetry blends seamlessly into modern and traditional interiors and offers a unique aesthetic with functional design solutions. Impressive on the inside and out, Poggenpohl is as much about function, flexibility and accessibility as it is impeccable design. Our new drawers and pull-outs are crafted from the finest materials and the pull-outs come with indirect LED lighting that is automatically activated when the pull-out is opened. Functional accessories, such as spice shakers and porcelain or aluminum jars allow for flawless organization and complement the light-maple or walnut wood inserts. The signature functional accessories and 70 finishes, ranging from exotic woods to high-gloss lacquers, affordable European laminates, glass, aluminum and classic raised panel doors, allow for the integration of concepts to meet each customer’s individual needs and taste. The level of customization available allows for flowing transitions from living and cooking areas. The Poggenpohl line is versatile and adaptable, suitable for small spaces and budget conscious homeowners as well as large homes with more considerable budgets. With eight price groups for complete kitchen designs, each can be tailored to meet your needs and lifestyle.

The El Dorado Hills showroom will be the second location for NAR Fine Carpentry, Inc. in addition to the Carmichael showroom where other cabinet lines are featured. However, Poggenpohl will be showcased at the El Dorado Hills location only.

NAR Fine Carpentry in Sacramento Magazine

April 16, 2013 2 Comments

Our Orange Kitchen is receiving quite the recognition around Sacramento.  Whether it is the bright Orange walls, Industrial & Eclectic Style, or the Innovation use of materials, this kitchen is certainly a conversation piece.  When the Home section Editorial writer from  Sacramento Magazine contacted us for an interview- we had to agree!

f1945926be02dace1e03e11f9a09ab3eWith the article titled “A Little Contemporary, A Little Classy . . . A Lot Eclectic” the article shows that what the author took away from this kitchen was true amazement of all the fine details that we had designed and built.  And the beauty of being a Design / Build Company- is that we can very carefully design details that can AND will actually be built as planned!  Many of the details in this kitchen took a huge amount of orchestration & attention to detail- and it shows!  Our job Foreman was sweating profusely this entire job.

This project was a design collaboration between President of Nar Fine Carpentry, Nar Bustamante & myself, Nicolette Patton.  Every step of the way was new and exciting.  From the layout & appliance placement, to the use of cabinet & building materials.  We stretched the use of concrete countertops to the limit, as well as Steel.  Speaking of steel, the clients weighed in BIG on the steel details, as the clients used their fabrication shop to do all the steel work.

Our Contemporary Kitchen wins 1st Place!

March 1, 2012 5 Comments

Nar Fine Carpentry is proud to announce that our “Davis Contemporary” Kitchen has won our local NKBA California Capital Chapter’s 2011 Design Competition Award for 1st Place Large Kitchen.  This kitchen has also won a CotY (Contractor of the Year) award with our local NARI Chapter.  But we are very excited as this is our first award with NKBA, National Kitchen and Bath Association.  I have posted about this kitchen before in an article title “That’s Hot!!!  This Davis Kitchen Does Contemporary” as it is one of our “showstoppers”.  After being professionally photographed by Fred Donham, it displays how beautiful the woods and colors work together.

Not only are we proud of our kitchen, but we are also proud members of the NKBA, National Kitchen and Bath Association.  The NKBA is dedicated to the advancement of the Kitchen and Bath Industry through education, certification and continually following new trends and products and ultimately help consumers create safe, energy efficient and functional spaces .  Nar Fine Carpentry attends our local California Capital Chapter meetings and courses.

Not only are the NKBA awards judged on aesthetic quality, but also Safety & Ergonomics, Elements and Principles of Design, Design Planning (which includes NKBA 31 Kitchen Planning Guidelines), Creativity and Presentation.  Put these all together, and you get beautiful kitchens and happy clients!

We also want to congratulate all of the other Sacramento Design Award Winners.  One of whom, is a designer that we work with frequently, Janice Stone Thomas, who also won 1st Place for Open Plan Kitchen.  We are very proud to have provided our Crystal Cabinetry for her project.  Bravo!

Nar Fine Carpentry’s Kitchen uses Custom Cabinetry by Crystal Cabinets, featuring Anegre & Maple wood, slate tile and Seafoam Granite.  Nicolette Patton, AKBD and Nar Bustamante collaborated on the design and also did the remodel from start to finish.

That’s Hot!!! This Davis Kitchen Does Contemporary

Well it had been a long time coming for this remodel.  Like many remodels, it can seem like years between the planning stage and the actual demo, and another year until completion.  The timeline for this remodel was no different.  These Davis homeowners approached Nar Bustamante, owner of Nar Fine Carpentry, in 2009, for assistance with their kitchen remodel.  They came with kitchen plans already in hand, but were disappointed with the proposed design and were in need of a different approach.  Nar, a remodeler, and designer at heart, took this opportunity and hit the ground running.

It isn’t often that you find clients with contemporary desires here in Sacramento, most of our clients have a traditional or craftsman lean.  We are seeing a shift in the past 2 years towards contemporary, but people are still afraid to take the plunge and be totally committed.  This project was perfect because we both spoke contemporary, not the cold, stark look, but warm contemporary, the kind that is comfortable (and livable).

Nar worked on materials selection, while I worked on space planning and cabinet layout.  It was the first true collaboration that Nar and I had done together.  And it truly turned out to be one of the most amazing kitchens that I have ever seen (if I do say so myself!  pat pat).  So here we are at the end of completion, and the end of 2011.  These Davis clients finally got their dream kitchen, and will have those dream holiday dinners and parties.  Another job well done by the team at Nar Fine Carpentry of Sacramento!

The Country Kitchen

June 24, 2010 1 Comment

I even surprise myself when I say that one of my favorite styles of kitchen design is the Country Kitchen.  If done right, the Country Kitchen can be very warm and inviting- how a kitchen should be.  Use of color, texture and shapes play a big role in the Country Kitchen.  You don’t have to accesorize with rooster tins, apple tiles or floral curtains, you can use elegant natural decor, like twigs, brick or glazed pottery for a graceful, yet warm look.  Many Country Kitchens use painted and distressed woods, wood countertops, wall paper treatments, apron sinks and vintage appliances.  Use of yellows, pale blues and natural wood tones and old objects for accessores are very common.

.

This is what you don’t want your Country Kitchen to look like: Arched doors with a painted country scene and oak cabinets.

Metal Countertops?

May 1, 2010

This blog is in response to a question posted on Remodel Q&A.

Q: What materials are used for metal countertops in kitchens?

A: There are several different metals that can be used for countertops.  The most popular being stainless steel, followed by copper, zinc, pewter and bronze.  I have done copper tops-in small amounts, ie: eating bars, eating tables, hutch or sideboard areas. Do remember that copper, zinc and pewter are soft materials that will patina and scratch over time.  The most durable would be stainless, which, is still likely to scratch.  Using metal in small amounts in your kitchen can bring in a different texture, uniqueness and style.  Depending on how you use it with your other materials, stainless tends to be cold and industrial, while a copper, zinc or pewter warm up a space.  You can get these in any different texture, finish or edge detail depending on the skills of your fabricator.  With copper, zinc or pewter, these can be anodized-rustic, hammered or reverse hammered, brushed or punched.  You can also create accents with a metal backsplash, hood, corbels, light fixtures, window sills or even an entire wall.  The photo below, was for the Rocklin RC Wiley Display, I used a rustic copper backsplash with a glass tile, it turned out sharp!  You will need to find a local sheet metal worker to fabricate your top. I use a local Sacramento metal worker who makes custom metal hoods, tops, frames, you name it, if it is metal, he can make it. He can also create a custom finish.

Old & New Green Charm; A Sacramento Kitchen Story

March 28, 2010

A unique home deserves a unique kitchen.  This Sacramento Land Park residence was once home to a local University Art Professor who used the home as a tool for experimentation and art expression in the 1960′s and 1970′s.  He and his students installed strange lighting, a bird house-like second story, and eclectic wood work through out the house.

When the current owners moved in, their goal was to preserve all of the creative, yet quarky design details of the home.  When they came to me to design their kitchen, I knew we would have a blast!

Saloon Door

Existing Window

The home interior featured dentil molding around the door casings, dark wood walls and ceilings and green accents.  Two major elements that the owners wanted to design around was an existing round window in the kitchen and an old saloon door that the owner picked-up when the Sacramento Saloon closed.  All of these features were fabulous indicators of the direction of the design.

Another great feature of this kitchen, is that it is completely Green.  Not only did we use a Green core box cabinet from Crystal, but the clients also chose a recycled glass countertop from IceStone.  The kitchen also features Energy Star appliances, bamboo flooring, and all of the old appliances and salvageable materials were donated.

Another New Kitchen!!!

March 25, 2010 1 Comment

I lied.  We finished this project mid-2009….  but it is new to the blog.  I was thinking about this kitchen because I was at work thinking about how nice it would be if my desk countertop was heated.  This kitchen features a heated granite eating bar for warm elbows.

Another reason I wanted to post this on the blog is because Nar Fine Carpentry remodeled practically the entire home.  This was a case where the homeowner had to move out for almost a year because it was such a large project.  The project included an addition, living room, kitchen, dining room, laundry room, 2 bathrooms, master closet and office remodel.  If that wasn’t a complete gut, I don’t know what is.

Every inch of this home is new, improved and efficient.  And the homeowner is taking full advantage of all the energy efficiency tax write-offs for last years tax season.

New Sacramento Kitchen Completed!!!

March 17, 2010 3 Comments

What a fun project!  These clients were NOT afraid of color or texture.  A combination of Rift White Oak in Espresso (bases) and Natural Rift White Oak (pantries) with a Brite White Laminate (uppers) for cabinetry, Ruby Reflections Caesarstone Quartz countertops with a River Rock backsplash tile.  The result, a classy, yet down to earth contemporary space that just screams “COOK IN ME!”

This kitchen comes complete with full extension and soft close drawers, a nifty 3″ spice pull-out by Rev-A-Shelf, Tip-Up cabinets over the sink, Super Lazy Susan Corner (with an accent white door), Pantries with 10 roll-out shelves, Double trash pull-out, under-cabinet lighting and lots of drawers for storage.

The adjoining living space contains loose river rock beds for a very Zen feeling.  Including the River Rock backsplash in the design achieved a  fully integrated kitchen space that feels like it has been there forever.

Install a “Peanut” for Easier Storage

March 9, 2010

I think about Peanuts and Beans quite a bit.  Not to eat, but to install in kitchens.  Nicknamed for its odd Peanut or Bean-like shape, the LeMans corner unit by Kessebohmer is the perfect solution for those blind corner situations.  In the past two weeks I have suggested this unit to two different clients.

The first time I saw the Peanut in person, the only word I had to describe it was; BUTTER!  The glides are so smooth and fluid, all motions are gentile and effortless.  We first installed this in a Sacramento kitchen a few years ago when it first came out, and the clients are still very pleased with it!

I prefer this over other blind corner systems for several reasons.  First, the non-skid shelves create a quiet cabinet environment (some other units are all metal making things clink around).  Second, there is only one pull-out motion required, versus the two for a metal corner unit, and the Peanut pulls all the way out.  Third, the curved shape make it less awkward to store round pots and pans or jarred food items.  And forth, it is much less expensive.

The Peanut is available in White or Maple finished shelf, and comes in 15, 18, or 21″ tray.
